LUKE GELL POOLS

Hotel pool and fountain renovation, Melbourne Beach

A hotel pool taken out of service, drained and stripped back from a failed interior finish, with the skimmer and deck drains rebuilt and the original heater replaced. The property fountain was renovated in the same contract: basin replumbed, relit, and the bronze sculpture reset.

The job

What we found

Cracked tile in the pool and in the beam. The plaster was falling apart, over a surface that had been painted at some point. The pool needed bringing up to date, and the lighting needed to be sea turtle compliant.

How we sequenced it

The plaster was chipped out and the shell was waterproofed. New drain covers and new grates went in, then new tile.

Bond coat, then a CL Industries Quartz finish in Blue Quartz. A commercial-grade heater replaced the old one, the lights were changed for sea turtle compliant fixtures, and an Orenda startup brought the water up.

The property's fountain was a separate piece of work at the same address, renovated alongside the pool.

Where it landed

A pool a hotel can run. New quartz interior, new tile, new drain covers and grates, compliant lighting, and a commercial-grade heater holding temperature for guests. The hotel was extremely happy, and their guests love the pool.

Questions we get on this kind of job

How long does a pool renovation take?

It depends on scope, permitting, weather, and material lead times. A builder who quotes a day count before seeing your shell is guessing. What you should expect is a dated schedule before work starts, and that is what we give you.

Why does coping go on before waterline tile?

Setting coping first means the tile band is only cut once, and it lets the waterproofing run continuously behind both. Tiling first forces a second cut and leaves a break in the waterproofing at the joint most exposed to sun and pool chemistry.

When do I pay?

Milestone billing. Each stage of the schedule triggers its own invoice, and a stage is only billed once it's complete. Nothing is billed ahead of the work.

Have a pool that looks like the before?

Luke walks it himself and prices it line-item by trade. You'll have a dated schedule before anything comes apart.
